Relaunch checklist: What to do before, during and after go-live
Before the relaunch
- Collect all existing URLs (sitemap, search console, analytics, backlinks, print).
- Record initial values: visitors, rankings of important keywords, inquiries.
- Create and approve the redirect map.
- Take over or consciously improve titles, descriptions, and headings of important pages.
- Block search engine access in test environment (password protection).
On the day of the go-live
- Do not carry over the block of the test environment to the live page (robots.txt, noindex).
- Enable redirects and check them randomly.
- Submit new XML sitemap in Search Console.
- Test HTTPS, forms, contact channels, and tracking.
- Check the goals of QR codes and printed links.
In the weeks that followed
- Monitor 404 errors and indexing in Search Console daily.
- Compare visitor numbers and inquiries with the baseline values.
- Add missing redirects.
- Ask important partners to update links.
- Clean up internal links to old addresses.
A point that is often missing
Printed QR codes rarely appear on a relaunch list. Dynamic codes can be centrally changed after go-live; Same-QR additionally checks the targets every night and reports dead pages with suggestions for the new target.
