Good URLs: A structure that survives the next relaunch
What makes a good URL
- Speaking: /leistungen/badsanierung instead of /index.php?id=17.
- Short and in lowercase, words separated by hyphens.
- Without technical endings like .php or .html, which will be removed in the next system.
- Without date, if the content is timeless.
Structure by content, not by organization
Addresses should reflect what visitors are looking for, not how the company is organized internally. Departments are renamed, services remain. /services/heating survives a restructuring better than /department-technology/heating.
Do not nest too deeply
Two to three levels are sufficient for most websites. Each additional level is a point that may change during the next redesign.
Stable addresses for print and QR codes
For printed materials, a dedicated short address that never moves is worthwhile – either a fixed short URL on your own domain with redirection or a dynamic QR code. This way, the actual page can change without the print becoming outdated.
Frequently asked questions

Regardless – but consistent. The other variant should redirect to the selected one.
