Create a QR code with ChatGPT: How to connect ChatGPT with Same-QR
What ChatGPT provides by itself
Anyone who wants to create a QR code with ChatGPT quickly gets a result: You provide an address, and ChatGPT generates an image. This code is static; the address is embedded in the pattern itself. If the address changes, only a reprint helps. You will never know how many times it was scanned, and no one notices if the target is no longer reachable.
For anything that is printed, a dynamic code is the better choice. It leads via a short, constant address, and you can change the target behind it at any time.
Step 1: Create an account with Same-QR
Register for free on sameqr.com and confirm your email address. Without a confirmed address, no codes can be created. Two dynamic codes are permanently free.
Step 2: Add Same-QR as a connector
Same-QR provides an MCP server. MCP is an open standard through which AI assistants use tools from other services. In ChatGPT, you add it as a connector. As of October 2026, this is done under Settings, Apps & Connectors, Create, in developer mode. Menus change occasionally, and OpenAI determines which ChatGPT plans allow custom connectors. For authentication, select OAuth; the address is:
https://sameqr.com/api/mcpStep 3: Log in and allow access
On first access, ChatGPT redirects you to Same-QR. You log in and see what the app is allowed to do. Without further checkboxes, it may only read. Check the box “Also create and change texts” so that ChatGPT can create codes. The second checkbox, “Also change targets, take offline and delete”, is only necessary if ChatGPT should modify existing codes. Then click 'Allow'. The procedure is called OAuth: ChatGPT does not see your password, and the connection can be terminated at any time in the dashboard under Account.
Step 4: Create the first code
Test the connection with a question that changes nothing, and then create your first code:
- "What plan do I have at Same-QR, and how many codes can I still create?"
- "Create a dynamic QR code pointing to https://example.com/karte. Name: Table tent."
- "Change the target of the code Table tent to https://example.com/winterkarte."
- "How many times has the code Table tent been scanned so far?"
You retrieve the final print file as PNG, SVG, or PDF in the dashboard. Scan the code with two mobile phones before printing.
What you should pay attention to
- Changing targets and deletion are doubly secured at Same-QR: The assistant must ask you and send the current state; you receive an email for each such change, and more than 10 per hour are not allowed. Only confirm what you really want.
- For menus, read prices and allergens yourself before publishing. The restaurant owner remains responsible.
- In the free plan, the number of target changes per code is limited. Plan the first change carefully.
- Revoke access if you no longer use the connection.
Conclusion: why Same-QR
With Same-QR, ChatGPT becomes a tool that creates real, editable codes in your account, including scan counts and nightly target checks. Setup takes a few minutes, login is secure via OAuth, and everything remains visible in the dashboard.
Try it yourself: sign up for free at sameqr.com. Two dynamic QR codes are free forever, no credit card needed, the paid plans can be cancelled monthly, and your guests never see ads when they scan.
Frequently asked questions
