QR code statistics via API: Retrieve scan data for your own reports
What is counted
Same-QR counts how many times each dynamic code has been scanned. No profile of the scanners is created. The count becomes meaningful through good segmentation: one code per location, advertising medium, or branch. The statistics for a code include the total scans, the creation date, how often the target was changed, and whether the code is inactive, for example, because the account has exceeded the limit of its tariff.
Step 1: Create a read-only key
You never need write access for reports. In the dashboard under Account, "Access for CLI, scripts and agents", create a key with "read only" access and name it according to its purpose, e.g., "Monthly Report". It can query numbers but cannot change or delete anything. This is particularly important for tasks that run unattended.
Step 2: Retrieve the numbers
Via the REST API, the list of all codes already includes the scan count per code. You can retrieve the statistics for a single code specifically:
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer $SAMEQR_API_KEY" https://sameqr.com/api/v1/qr
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer $SAMEQR_API_KEY" https://sameqr.com/api/v1/qr/<id>/statsUsing the command line is shorter:
sameqr qr list --json > scans-$(date +%Y-%m).json
sameqr qr stats <id>Step 3: Build the report
Because scan counts are sums, you save a snapshot each month and compare it with the previous month. The difference is the number of scans in that month. Typical reports:
- Monthly report for an agency client with all codes from their client project.
- Comparison of several branches, if each branch has its own codes and its own label.
- Evaluation of a poster campaign by location.
You don't need your own program: An assistant like ChatGPT or Claude with Same-QR as a connector answers "Which five codes were scanned most frequently?" directly in the conversation.
Limits of the numbers
- A scan does not mean that someone read the page.
- Few scans may be due to the location, such as poor lighting or a code that is too small.
- For behavior on the website, you need web analytics. Campaigns with utm parameters connect both.
Conclusion: why Same-QR
Same-QR counts cleanly and with data sparingness, and you get the numbers as you like: in the dashboard, via API, via CLI, or in conversation with an assistant. A read key is sufficient, and the API is included in every plan.

Frequently asked questions
Total scans, installation date, number of target changes, and whether the code is inactive. Same-QR does not collect personal data about scanners.
Yes, by saving a snapshot each month and calculating the difference. A script with a read key does this automatically.
No. "read only" is sufficient and the safer choice.
