Automatically create campaign QR codes: UTM, labels, and evaluation

One code per medium

A single QR code for the entire campaign only counts the total sum. A code per medium shows which one works. Same-QR counts scans per code without collecting data about scanners. You handle the segmentation; Same-QR handles the counting.

UTM parameters at the destination

UTM parameters are additions to a URL that your web analytics reads: utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign. If a code points to your own website, you append them to the destination. If a code points to a hosted page from Same-QR, you specify a campaign when creating it in the dashboard. Same-QR then sets the parameters automatically and assigns page views and enquiries to the campaign.

Step 1: Label and list

Create a label for the campaign, e.g., "Fall 2026", and note the media with their destinations, for example in kampagne.csv:

Plakat;https://example.com/herbst?utm_source=plakat&utm_medium=qr&utm_campaign=herbst-2026
Flyer;https://example.com/herbst?utm_source=flyer&utm_medium=qr&utm_campaign=herbst-2026
Tischaufsteller;https://example.com/herbst?utm_source=tisch&utm_medium=qr&utm_campaign=herbst-2026

Step 2: Create codes

Via command line, with the label ID from sameqr labels list:

while IFS=";" read -r name url; do
sameqr qr create --name "Herbst $name" --url "$url" --label <label-id> --json || break
done < kampagne.csv

Or in a conversation with an assistant that has Same-QR as a connector: "Create three codes for the fall campaign, poster, flyer, and table tent, destination example.com/fall with appropriate UTM parameters, label Fall 2026. Show me the list first."

Step 3: Test and print

Scan each code once and check in web analytics whether the visit arrives with the correct parameters. You retrieve the print files as SVG or PDF in the dashboard.

Step 4: Evaluation after the action

Ask your assistant: "How many times were the codes with the label Autumn 2026 scanned, by advertising medium?" Or retrieve the numbers using "sameqr qr list --json". Web analytics is responsible for what happens after the scan. After the action, you switch the goals to the next offer instead of deleting the codes. This way, leftover flyers still lead back to you.

Conclusion: why Same-QR

Same-QR makes campaigns measurable without collecting data about people: one code per advertising medium, labels for the group, UTM parameters for web analytics, and goals that simply continue to live after the action. Creation is possible in the dashboard, via script, or via assistant.

Frequently asked questions

Does Same-QR automatically set UTM parameters?

For codes pointing to a hosted page from Same-QR, the campaign is set during creation. For your own websites, you append the parameters to the target.

How many codes do I need for a campaign?

One per advertising medium or location you want to evaluate separately. The number of codes depends on your plan.

What do I do with the codes after the campaign?

Switch their goal to the current offer. Printed copies then continue to lead back to you.
