Automatically organize QR codes: labels via CLI, API, and assistant

Why order matters with many codes

Those who want to organize QR codes usually think about it too late: when the list is long and no one knows which code is stuck on which poster. Labels are keywords you attach to codes, such as location, campaign, or customer. Same-QR allows up to 200 labels per account and up to 20 per code. After that, you filter in the dashboard, evaluate groups, and give an assistant clear instructions.

Step 1: Name labels meaningfully

  • One dimension per label: "Branch Graz" and "Poster" instead of "Graz Posters".
  • Consistent spelling for all, including scripts and assistants.
  • Campaigns with time period: "Fall 2026" instead of just "Fall".
  • Prefer few, clear labels over many that overlap.

Step 2: Create labels

You create labels in the dashboard, or you ask an assistant with Same-QR as a connector: "Create the labels Branch Graz, Branch Linz, and Poster." Via the REST API, you can do this with a POST request to /api/v1/labels. The command line shows the identifiers of all labels:

sameqr labels list

Step 3: Assign labels

When creating, you attach labels immediately; for existing codes, "--label" replaces the entire list:

sameqr qr create --name "Graz Tisch 4" --url https://example.com/karte --label <label-graz>
sameqr qr update <id> --label <label-graz> --label <label-plakat>

You send the labels field with all identifiers the code should carry via a PATCH request to /api/v1/qr/<id>.

Step 4: Cleanup with an assistant

For existing collections, an assistant is ideal because it can read names and goals and assign them meaningfully:

  • "Look at all codes and suggest labels by location. Do not change anything yet."
  • "Attach the label Branch Graz to all codes whose name starts with Graz."
  • "Which codes have no label at all?"

Have the list displayed first for larger changes. If a label is deleted, the codes remain and only lose the label.

Projects for customers

In the Agentur plan, there is a level above labels: customer projects. A code belongs to at most one project; labels apply across all projects. This way you separate customers cleanly and further organize within each customer by location or campaign. "sameqr projekte list" shows the identifiers, "--projekt" assigns during creation.

Conclusion: why Same-QR

Same-QR gives you order that grows with you: 200 labels, customer projects in the Agentur plan, and access from the dashboard, CLI, API, and assistant. This way you can find every code again, even if there are hundreds.
