Import menu via command line: Many menus for many establishments

Who benefits from this

Importing a menu is done in the Same-QR dashboard: upload a photo or PDF, review, and adopt. Agencies, beverage suppliers with gastro service, or operators of multiple establishments have a different problem: many menus, always the same process. Here, the command line saves time because each step can be repeated.

Step 1: Setup

npm install -g sameqr
sameqr login
sameqr projekte list

„sameqr login“ prompts for your API key in a hidden manner, created in the dashboard under Account, „Access for CLI, scripts and agents“, with „read + write“. „sameqr projects list“ displays the identifiers of your customer projects in the Agentur plan.

Step 2: Create page

sameqr seite create --vorlage speisekarte --name "Gasthof zum Löwen" --projekt <projekt-id>

The command outputs the address of the new page, in the example menu/gasthof-zum-loewen. With --projekt, it lands directly with the correct customer.

Step 3: Read menu

sameqr karte import seite-1.jpg seite-2.jpg --seite menu/gasthof-zum-loewen

Up to four photos (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF) or a PDF with up to eight pages and a maximum of 6 MB per menu. The CLI shows how many lines were detected in how many groups, marks uncertain lines with a question mark, and attaches the groups to the page without overwriting existing content. Reading counts against the monthly quota of the plan.

Step 4: Review with the establishment

  • Compare prices line by line with the original, starting with uncertain lines.
  • Have the establishment check allergen labels. Same-QR recognizes short codes like A to R or 1 to 14, but only the kitchen knows if they are correct.
  • Fill in the operator details; without them, the page cannot be published.
  • Explicitly authorize the operation.

Step 5: Publish and create code

sameqr seite publish menu/gasthof-zum-loewen
sameqr qr create --name "Löwen Tische" --seite menu/gasthof-zum-loewen --projekt <projekt-id>

The code links directly to the page. Subsequent changes to the menu do not require new printing. Scan with multiple mobile devices before ordering standees.

Order with many customers

Customer projects separate codes and pages per customer; labels organize across them, up to 200 per account. Define a naming scheme, such as "Customer Location Purpose", and adhere to it in scripts as well as in the dashboard. With --json, each command provides output that your script can process further.

Conclusion: why Same-QR

Same-QR turns the digitization of many menus into a clean process: Reading in via AI, appending without overwriting, customer projects, publishing and code in one command. The responsibility for prices and allergens remains with the operator; the CLI handles the tedious work.
