Edit menu directly in the preview: tap and change

Image from Unsplash

Previously, editing a menu in Same-QR was done via the form on the left in the editor: expand a category, find a dish, change a field, and check the preview on the right. Now, almost everything can be done in reverse. You see something in the preview, tap on it, and change it right there. The preview shows the menu exactly as the guest sees it after scanning. What you correct there is what they see afterward.

Tap and change texts and prices

  • 1. Open your menu in the “Menus” tab. The preview displays the note: “Tap a text or price to change it right here.”
  • 2. Tap on the name of the venue, the subtitle, a category, a dish, its description, a price, the daily special, or a text paragraph.
  • 3. Change the text in the input field that opens right at that spot. Press Enter to save, Esc to discard.
  • 4. When everything looks good, publish as usual using “Publish” or “Publish changes”.

If something is missing, such as a description or a price, a placeholder like “+ Description” or “+ Price” appears in that spot. Tap on it, and you can fill it in.

Tools for dishes and categories

When you tap on a dish, a small toolbar appears next to it:

  • “Off today”: The dish disappears from the menu for today and reappears automatically tomorrow.
  • “Hide” and “Show again”: for dishes that are paused for a longer period
  • “Duplicate”: creates a copy, handy for similar dishes in different sizes
  • “Delete”: removes the dish immediately

You can delete a category along with its content, and remove the daily special using “Remove offer”. After each action, “Undo” appears; on a laptop, you can also use Cmd+Z or Ctrl+Z. Even a deleted category is fully restored this way.

Add and sort dishes and categories

  • At the end of each category is “+ Dish”, and at the end of the menu is “+ Category”. The name field opens immediately. If the name is left blank, the new entry disappears again.
  • Use the arrows “Move up” and “Move down” to shift dishes and categories. A dish at the very top or bottom moves into the adjacent category with the next arrow press.
  • A new category without dishes appears as a placeholder in the editor. Guests only see it once there is something inside.

A menu can have up to 20 categories, each with up to 60 dishes.

Header photo and logo at the top of the page

The header of the menu also has tools: “Change photo”, “Original photo”, and “Change logo”. For designs with an illustration in the header, you can toggle your own photo on or off using “Show photo” or “Hide photo”. The photo and logo are part of the page’s appearance and therefore included in plans starting from Gastro Starter.

On mobile

On your phone, open the preview via the “Preview” button in the bottom bar; it then fills the entire screen. The input field and tools slide up from the bottom as a sheet, large enough for your thumb. This way, you can correct a price or mark a dish as sold out, even between two orders at the counter.

What you should know

  • You always edit the base language of your menu. If the preview is currently showing a translation, tap “Show original”. After changing texts, translate them again using “Translate again”.
  • Hidden dishes appear dimmed in the preview so you can find them. Guests do not see them.
  • If you edit an example dish in a new menu, it loses its “Example” label.
  • If the menu is already online, your changes are saved and only go live to guests when you click “Publish changes”.
  • You continue to manage allergens, opening hours, the times for individual categories, and other settings in the form on the left. For quick changes without searching, there is also the “What should change?” field (available from Gastro Starter onwards).

Conclusion

An outdated price, a sold-out dish, or a missing dessert usually becomes apparent in the preview, so you can also make changes there: tap, edit, add, or move. Editing in the preview is available in every plan. You can start for free on sameqr.com and try it out with your own menu.
