Switching from Hovercode to Same-QR: Step by step
Inventory in the Hovercode account
Anyone switching from Hovercode to Same-QR should first note down the name, destination, and short link for each dynamic code, as well as the location of the print. According to the pricing page (as of October 2026), there is a CSV export of scan activity starting from the „Business“ plan; the columns are not publicly documented. In case of doubt, you create a list of codes with destinations manually.
If you no longer know which printed code belongs to which entry: take a photo of the code and upload it in Same-QR under “Read a QR image”. Same-QR reads what is in the code, i.e. the old short link. Where that short link redirects to, you can see in your old provider’s account.
Create codes in Same-QR
Create a new one for each code in Same-QR. Two codes are permanently free; from the Start plan, there are 25 codes for €5.90 per month, and Pro offers 150 for €14.90.
In the dashboard, under “Many codes at once”, you will find “Import a spreadsheet”. Download the template there, enter your codes and upload the file again. The template has three columns: Name, Target URL and Labels. Comma and semicolon both work as separators; separate several labels with a vertical bar (|). Labels that do not exist yet are created during the import. CSV import is part of the Start plan and above.
If you created your codes at Hovercode via mass import, you might still have the spreadsheet for it. According to Hovercode's help centre, it has the columns links and display_name. Rename display_name to „Name“ and links to „Target URL“, then Same-QR can read the file directly. Check beforehand whether the destinations are still current.
Bridge: Redirecting Hovercode codes
As long as your Hovercode plan is active, you change the destination of each dynamic code to the new Same-QR link. A scan then runs from the printed code via Same-QR to your destination. Test each redirected code.
The easiest way is the migration assistant under Dashboard → “QR codes” → “Move from another provider”: it reads your list as a CSV or Excel file, lets you assign the columns name, destination URL, old short link and labels, and creates the codes, as many as your plan allows. Afterwards you download a list “old short link → new Same-QR link”, which is exactly what you need for the bridge. An overview of switching is at sameqr.com/wechseln/en.
According to Hovercode's pricing page (as of October 2026), the first 3 dynamic codes remain active after cancellation; the others become inactive and can be reactivated. For these 3 codes, the bridge can therefore remain in place even after cancellation.
Replace printed materials
New prints receive the Same-QR code directly, as PNG, SVG, or PDF. First, you exchange the prints whose codes would become inactive after cancellation. The 3 codes that remain active are replaced during the next regular print.
Cancel subscription
Cancel once all codes outside the first 3 have been replaced. The remaining ones continue to redirect via the bridge to Same-QR. And because Hovercode only deactivates the other codes according to the pricing page, they can be reactivated if needed.
All paid Same-QR plans can be cancelled monthly at the end of the billing period, with no minimum term. You can also cancel without signing in via “Cancel contracts here” at the bottom of the website.
At Same-QR, the end of a subscription is handled as follows: Codes within the quota of your new plan continue to run unchanged – in the free plan, the two oldest. Codes beyond that are deactivated by us only after a 14-day grace period, and you will receive three emails beforehand (7, 3, and 1 day before). Deactivated does not mean deleted: The code shows a notice instead of the destination when scanned and works again as soon as your plan covers it.

Yes. Rename display_name to Name and links to Target URL, check the destinations, and then Same-QR will read the file.
Generally no. Save the statistics before cancellation with the old provider, as far as they offer an export. In Same-QR, the count begins with the first scan via the new code.
Codes within the quota continue to work; in the free plan, the two oldest ones. Codes above the quota are deactivated after a 14-day grace period and three warning emails, but not deleted, and work again as soon as your plan covers them.
