Declare allergens via QR code: What is allowed

For catering, canteen and gastronomy it is mandatory to label allergens and additives. A QR code can help make the information more accessible. However, it does not replace verbal or written information. Customers can still request further information upon inquiry. It is important that the destination page of the QR code is readable without an app and without login, to ensure accessibility.

The information must always be up to date. When recipe changes occur, the QR codes must be updated immediately. This is especially important to minimize legal risks. A QR code is therefore a tool, but not a substitute for the mandatory information.

How does a QR code for allergens work?

A QR code for allergens is created in the dashboard of Same-QR. The target page must be in German and contain the required information. The information is saved in the dashboard file and can be edited later. The code itself does not change once the information in the dashboard is modified. Thus, the information remains always up-to-date, even if the code is printed.

Same-QR offers a free plan that is sufficient for the creation and management of QR codes. The number of scans is unlimited on each plan. The target page remains unchanged once it has been created. Thus, the code is always agreeable and reliable for customers.

What should be on the target page?

  • Name of the food item
  • List of Allergens
  • Additives with designation
  • Responsible Manufacturer or Caterer

Why is a QR code for allergens useful?

A QR code enables quick and easy access to allergen information. Customers can retrieve the data directly on their smartphone without having to perform additional steps. This is particularly helpful during heavy customer traffic or when there is a large number of food items. It is however important not to neglect the mandatory information.
