Switching from QR.io to Same-QR: Step by step

Inventory in the QR.io account

If you want to switch from QR.io to Same-QR, start with a list. Log in to QR.io and note the name, destination, and whether it is dynamic or static for each code. Dynamic codes run via a short link on qr.io. Static codes contain the destination directly in the image.

The distinction is crucial for the move. According to the QR.io pricing page (as of October 2026), static codes continue to work without a subscription, while dynamic ones become inactive without a subscription. Thus, dynamic codes need the bridge, while static ones do not.

The pricing page does not describe exporting the code list. Check your account; if it is not available, create the list manually.

If you no longer know which printed code belongs to which entry: take a photo of the code and upload it in Same-QR under “Read a QR image”. Same-QR reads what is in the code, i.e. the old short link. Where that short link redirects to, you can see in your old provider’s account.

Create codes in Same-QR

Create a new code in Same-QR for each dynamic QR.io code. Two are permanently free in the free plan, and more are available starting from the Start plan with 25 codes for €5.90 per month.

In the dashboard, under “Many codes at once”, you will find “Import a spreadsheet”. Download the template there, enter your codes and upload the file again. The template has three columns: Name, Target URL and Labels. Comma and semicolon both work as separators; separate several labels with a vertical bar (|). Labels that do not exist yet are created during the import. CSV import is part of the Start plan and above.

Enter your actual website or file as the destination, not the old qr.io link. For codes you want to print anew, you can choose a descriptive link, such as sameqr.com/r/fruehstueck. It is fixed after creation.

Bridge: Redirecting QR.io codes

As long as your QR.io subscription is active, you can change the destination of dynamic codes. Enter the Same-QR link as the new destination for each dynamic QR.io code. A scan then runs from the printed qr.io code via Same-QR to your destination. From now on, you only change new destinations in Same-QR.

  • Test the new Same-QR code alone first.
  • Then switch and save the destination in QR.io.
  • Scan the printed code.
  • Check the box in the list.

The easiest way is the migration assistant under Dashboard → “QR codes” → “Move from another provider”: it reads your list as a CSV or Excel file, lets you assign the columns name, destination URL, old short link and labels, and creates the codes, as many as your plan allows. Afterwards you download a list “old short link → new Same-QR link”, which is exactly what you need for the bridge. An overview of switching is at sameqr.com/wechseln/en.

Replace printed materials one by one

New printed materials will receive the Same-QR code immediately; print files are available as PNG, SVG, and PDF in every plan. You replace the old ones according to priority. Tip: In the Same-QR dashboard, you can see which codes are being scanned. This way, you can identify which old prints are still in use.

Cancel subscription

Only cancel the QR.io subscription once the important printed materials have been replaced, because after that, the dynamic QR.io codes no longer redirect according to the pricing page. Static QR.io codes continue to work as long as their destination is accessible.

All paid Same-QR plans can be cancelled monthly at the end of the billing period, with no minimum term. You can also cancel without signing in via “Cancel contracts here” at the bottom of the website.

At Same-QR, the end of a subscription is handled as follows: Codes within the quota of your new plan continue to run unchanged – in the free plan, the two oldest. Codes beyond that are deactivated by us only after a 14-day grace period, and you will receive three emails beforehand (7, 3, and 1 day before). Deactivated does not mean deleted: The code shows a notice instead of the destination when scanned and works again as soon as your plan covers it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I also need to migrate static QR.io codes?

Not necessarily. According to the pricing page, they continue to work even without a subscription. If you want to change their destination in the future, replace them with dynamic Same-QR codes during the next print run.

How long does the migration take?

Creating and redirecting takes just a few minutes per code. The exchange of printed materials takes longer, which you plan according to priority.

Can I take my old scan statistics with me?

Generally no. Save the statistics before cancellation with the old provider, as far as they offer an export. In Same-QR, the count begins with the first scan via the new code.

What happens to my Same-QR codes if I cancel later?

Codes within the quota continue to work; in the free plan, the two oldest ones. Codes above the quota are deactivated after a 14-day grace period and three warning emails, but not deleted, and work again as soon as your plan covers them.
