Create menu with AI: From photo to online menu with ChatGPT
What AI handles for the menu
Anyone who wants to create a menu with AI saves themselves primarily from typing. The AI recognizes categories, dishes, descriptions, and prices on a photo and transfers them into a hosted menu. The result at Same-QR is a standalone page without a separate website: name, subtitle, a daily special at the top, followed by categories with dish, price, and an additional line for description or allergens. Cooking, calculating, and responsibility for the content remain with you.
Step 1: Take a good photo
- Lay the menu flat and photograph it straight from above.
- Ensure even lighting, without reflections on foil or laminate.
- Photograph each page individually, rather than a double-page spread at an angle.
- If available, prefer using the PDF from the graphics program.
Step 2: Connect ChatGPT with Same-QR
Register for free on sameqr.com. In ChatGPT, add Same-QR as a connector with the address https://sameqr.com/api/mcp and log in to Same-QR via OAuth. During login, check the box "Also create and change texts", otherwise ChatGPT can only read. ChatGPT only receives permission, never your password. OpenAI determines whether custom connectors are available in your ChatGPT plan.
Step 3: Upload photo and create menu
Upload the photo to the chat and type:
"Create a new menu for the Gasthaus Lindenhof in Same-QR and import all categories, dishes, and prices from this photo. Only include allergens if they are listed on the menu. Do not publish yet; show me the result first."
The page is being created as a draft. Same-QR can also read menus via AI from up to four photos or a PDF with up to eight pages. Reading does not save anything by itself; only what is written to the page is saved. This counts against your plan's monthly quota.
Step 4: Review
- Prices: A misrecognized comma can quickly turn 12.50 into 1250.
- Allergens: Same-QR recognizes short codes such as letters A to R or numbers 1 to 14 in the additional line and displays a legend below in the language of the guest's mobile phone. Only the kitchen knows if the information is correct.
- Dishes that are no longer available and categories in the correct order.
You can correct them in the conversation ("The Wiener Schnitzel costs 19.80.") or in the dashboard, where you can see the entire menu at a glance and, starting from the Start plan, also choose design, font, and colors.
Step 5: Publish and QR Code
To publish, the operator details must be filled in, i.e., who is behind the page. Then you say: "Publish the menu and create a QR code that points to it." You can download the print file as PNG, SVG, or PDF from the dashboard. Scan the code with two or three mobile phones before printing and read through the menu once there.
From now on, you can change the menu whenever you want; the printed code remains the same.
Conclusion: why Same-QR
Same-QR combines the best of both worlds: AI that takes over the typing for you and a menu built for mobile phones, with 88 designs for 11 restaurant types, an allergen legend in five languages, and a QR code that never needs to be reprinted.
Try it yourself: sign up for free at sameqr.com. Two dynamic QR codes are free forever, no credit card needed, the paid plans can be cancelled monthly, and your guests never see ads when they scan.
