Menu with pictures: your venue at the top of the page

Many designs for the digital menu in Same-QR feature a large photo at the top: embers on the grill, a latte art cup at the café, a basket of grapes at the winery. These photos set the mood but do not show your venue. With “Your own photo at the top”, you replace the design’s photo with your own: your dining room, your favorite dish, your terrace. The fonts, colors, and layout of the design remain unchanged; only the image becomes yours.

Why use your own photo

A guest who scans the QR code at the table is already with you. A photo they recognize makes the menu your menu. For those who find the page beforehand via Google Maps or Instagram, this applies even more: the photo at the top is the first thing they see of you.

How to upload the photo

  • 1. Open your menu in the “Menus” tab and go to the design in the editor.
  • 2. Below that, you will find “Your own photo at the top”. Tap “Upload photo”.
  • 3. Choose a photo in JPG, PNG, WebP, or HEIC format, so also directly from an iPhone. Best in landscape orientation and at least 1200 pixels wide.
  • 4. Adjust the “Image crop”: Drag the photo within the frame or use the “Move horizontally” and “Move vertically” sliders until the important parts are visible. “Centre” resets it.
  • 5. Check the result in the preview and publish.

If you prefer the original, you can bring it back with a single tap using “Restore the design’s original photo.” With “Different photo,” you can swap your image at any time.

Designs with an illustration at the top

Not every design includes a photo. For illustrated designs, such as “Classic,” “Elegant,” and the neutral designs, there is a toggle called “Show your own photo at the top.” When enabled, your photo appears framed above the name of your venue, while the design’s colors and fonts remain unchanged. When disabled, the illustration stays in place.

Tips for a good smartphone photo

A professional photo is nice, but not mandatory. You can achieve great results with your smartphone if you keep a few things in mind:

  • Use daylight: Position yourself so that the window is to your side. Light from behind makes the subject dark, and flash makes it flat.
  • Shoot in landscape: The top of the page is wide. A portrait-oriented photo will be heavily cropped.
  • Keep the background calm: An empty dining room in the morning looks tidier than full tables in the evening.
  • One subject instead of many: one dish, one table, the facade, or the outdoor seating area.
  • Leave some space: Depending on the smartphone, the photo will be cropped differently. A little breathing room around the subject ensures it remains clearly visible everywhere.

Menu with pictures: A header photo instead of a photo for each dish

Same-QR deliberately does not include photos for every individual dish. A long list of images makes the menu on the phone heavy and slow, and even one poorly lit image does more harm than good. A strong photo at the top, followed by a clearly readable list with descriptions, keeps the menu fast and easy to navigate. Your logo, which appears at the top of the page instead of initials under “Appearance,” also helps with brand recognition.

Rights and Data Protection

Only upload photos that you have the rights to use, such as those you took yourself or with the photographer's permission. Include recognizable individuals only with their consent. Same-QR automatically removes location and other camera data when you upload.

Your own photo, logo, and designs are included in plans starting from Gastro Starter (€5.90 excl. VAT per month).

Conclusion

With “Your own photo at the top,” your digital menu with pictures displays your venue instead of a stock image. Upload, crop, publish, and guests immediately see where they are. You can start for free on sameqr.com and view the designs with photos.
