Menu template: Design and sample dishes tailored to your venue
Those looking for a menu template usually end up with Word files, PDF forms, or graphic software. They fill them out, print them, and start over with the next price change. A digital menu in Same-QR begins differently: It is fully designed from the first moment and already includes some sample dishes that fit the style of your venue. You replace them with your own and publish.
Why a blank template holds you back
Faced with a blank page, numerous questions arise at once: Which categories? How long can descriptions be? Which font, which color? A menu that already looks like a pizzeria, café, or traditional inn answers most of them. You immediately see how categories, prices, and descriptions look on a mobile phone, and you focus on what only you know: your dishes and prices.
How to create the menu
- 1. Open the “Menus” tab in the dashboard.
- 2. Tap on “New menu”.
- 3. Enter the name of your business. This creates the page address. It remains the same afterward because it is embedded in the printed QR code.
- 4. The editor opens: on the left, you edit; on the right, you see the preview as the guest sees it after scanning.
Sample dishes: customize or delete
A new menu template starts with a small preselection of dishes. There are starter texts for grill, pizza, café, pub, Asian, bar, kebab, fish, wine, and a general variant. Each of these entries is marked: “Example – edit or delete”.
- If you edit an entry, it is no longer an example.
- With “Remove all examples”, you clear the remaining ones in one step.
- If you import your actual menu via photo or PDF, it replaces the examples.
- If unchanged examples with prices are still on the menu when publishing, the editor will alert you. Otherwise, guests would see them like any other entry.
The right design with one click
Under “Design”, you first select “1 · Kind of venue” and then “2 · Design for …”. Just clicking on the venue type sets a matching photo design, and the preview changes immediately. A few examples:
| Venue type | Starter design |
|---|---|
| Grill | Embers |
| Pizza | Margherita |
| Café | Rosetta |
| Wine | Grape Basket |
| Fish | Nets |
| Bar | Illuminated Glass |
A total of 95 menu templates are available, 60 of which include photos, while others are illustrated. Some feature motion in the header, such as flames, waves, or lights. If you have reduced motion settings on your mobile device, these animations will remain static. Additionally, there are the simple “Classic” and “Elegant” designs in white and black, suitable for any kitchen, as well as neutral designs.
Fine-tuning under “Appearance”
Fonts and colors are derived from the design. Under “Appearance,” you can adjust them: the font for names and headings, the color palette, your house color for headings, prices, and buttons, as well as your logo. The editor will not save color combinations that would be unreadable at the table. With “back to the design,” you can always revert everything to its previous state.
Designs, custom colors, and logos are included in plans starting from Gastro Starter (€5.90 excl. VAT per month). In the Free plan, you can view all designs, but your page will use the neutral standard design.
Online menu template instead of a Word file
A Word or PDF template is finished once printed, and any change means reprinting. You edit the digital menu in the editor, while the QR code on the table remains the same. The font adapts to the guest’s phone instead of shrinking on an A4 sheet. And because the page is not printed, it can feature photos, motion, and your house color without increasing printing costs.
Conclusion
A menu template is meant to save time. In Same-QR, the menu starts with a design and examples tailored to your venue; you just swap in your dishes and prices. You can start for free on sameqr.com and create your first menu template.
