20 free QR codes. Permanently. What they cover in everyday use
Whether 20 QR codes are a lot or a little depends on who uses them. An agency with many clients needs more. A café, a sports club or a photographer can often manage with them for a long time. This article uses examples to show how 20 dynamic QR codes are spread out, what 1,000 scans a month mean and what the free plan does not include.
Why dynamic makes the difference
A static QR code holds its destination inside the pattern. If the address changes, the print is worthless. A dynamic QR code holds a short redirect. The destination behind it can be changed after printing, and every scan is counted. That is exactly why free dynamic QR codes are rare: the redirect has to run permanently.
How 20 QR codes are spread in practice
| Who | Typical QR codes | Number |
|---|---|---|
| Café or small restaurant | Menu, Google review, Instagram, reservations, daily special, voucher | 6 |
| Sports club | Membership form, fixtures, donation link, club party, volunteer list | 5 |
| Self-employed | Business card, review link, flyer, shop window, appointment booking | 5 |
| School or nursery | Letter to parents, sign-up for the fair, photo folder, lunch menu | 4 |
One QR code per place instead of one for everything
Scans are counted per QR code. If the same code sits on the table, in the window and on the flyer, you only see the total. If each place gets its own code, you see which place is actually used. With 20 QR codes there is enough room for that without having to economise.
What 1,000 scans a month mean
The 1,000 scans apply to the whole account, so to all QR codes together, and reset every calendar month. A café with 25 scans a day ends up at about 750 a month. A club with one party a year usually stays far below. If an account goes over, the codes keep working at first. Visitors then see the note “Made for free with Same-QR” for about two seconds before the destination. If the account stays above the limit for more than seven days, the codes show only a notice until the end of the month. Three emails come before that.
Two destination changes per QR code
On the free plan the destination of each QR code can be changed twice. After that the code stays valid and keeps leading to the last destination. If your content changes often, point the code to a page you maintain yourself, such as a subpage of your own website. Then the content changes without using up a destination change.
What the free plan does not include
- your own colours and a logo in the QR code
- more than two destination changes per QR code
- more than 1,000 scans a month
- downloading many QR codes at once as a ZIP
- a page in your own brand colour: the free plan includes one page in the standard design with the note “Made with Same-QR”
No trial period, no credit card, no ads
Many free offers for dynamic QR codes end after a few days, and printed codes stop redirecting afterwards. The free plan of Same-QR has no end date. An email address is enough to sign up, no credit card is requested. People who scan see no ads.
Conclusion
For one business, one club or one class, 20 dynamic QR codes usually leave room to spare. Plan one code per place, keep an eye on the scans and put frequently changing content on a page you edit yourself. You can try it for free at Same-QR.
