QR code tracking in Same-QR: Counting scans and interpreting them correctly

A QR code on a flyer is only half the job. It gets interesting when you see whether it is being used. Same-QR counts every scan of a dynamic QR code. The statistics are intentionally kept simple: they show a total per QR code, indicating how often each code has been scanned. For campaigns, you combine this with UTM parameters in your own web analytics.

What Same-QR tracks

  • Scans per QR code: Every scan of a dynamic QR code is counted, totaling all scans since creation.
  • Views of your pages: In the list of your menus and pages, you can see how often each was accessed in the last 30 days.
  • Order clicks: If your menu includes order links to delivery services, WhatsApp, or your shop, Same-QR counts the clicks per channel (from Gastro Starter onwards).
  • Scans per table: With table QR codes, each table has its own counter.

Opening the statistics

In the dashboard, open “Statistics”; on mobile, tap “Stats” in the bottom bar. There you will find your “Most scanned QR codes” with the number of scans. You can also see the scans for an individual QR code directly in the code list, and for pages additionally in the “Your QR code” card as “Scans total”.

Comparing marketing materials

The most important rule for meaningful numbers: one QR code per marketing material. If the same code appears on flyers, posters, and table stands, you only know that it was scanned, but not where.

  • 1. Create a separate QR code for each marketing material, all pointing to the same destination.
  • 2. Give them descriptive names like “Flyer Autumn”, “Poster Train Station”, “Stand Bar”.
  • 3. Assign labels, such as “Autumn Campaign”. Labels are available in every plan and help keep long lists organized.
  • 4. After one or two weeks, compare the scans.

Since the statistics show totals, simply note the status at the beginning and end of a campaign for comparisons over time.

UTM for your own web analytics

If the QR code leads to your website, append UTM parameters to the destination. Your web analytics will then attribute the visits to the QR code:

ParameterExampleMeaning
utm_sourceqrSource: QR code
utm_mediumflyerMarketing material
utm_campaignautumnPromotion

A goal might look something like this: your-website.at/promotion?utm_source=qr&utm_medium=flyer&utm_campaign=autumn. The QR code pattern does not become larger because only the short redirect is stored in the code.

What the numbers tell you

  • A table stand with few scans may be poorly placed, too small, or obscured.
  • Many scans but few order clicks: The path to ordering on the page may be too hidden.
  • A poster clearly outperforms a flyer: next time, use more posters and fewer flyers.
  • Scans without website visits: check the target; the QR code may be pointing to an old URL.

The Free plan includes 10,000 scans per month; all paid plans offer unlimited scans.

Conclusion

Same-QR’s qr code tracking statistics show how often each code was scanned, which page was opened, and which ordering path drives the most traffic. By assigning a unique QR code to each marketing asset and using UTM parameters, you can draw reliable comparisons. You can start for free at sameqr.com and create your first QR code.

Frequently asked questions

How can I see how often my QR code was scanned?

Under “Statistics,” you’ll find your most-scanned QR codes. You can also see the scan count for each individual QR code in the code list.

Can I see which flyer performs better?

Yes, if each marketing asset has its own QR code. Then you can compare the scans of the codes directly.

Can I see who scanned my QR code?

No. The statistics show totals per QR code, not individual users. For detailed analysis on your website, use UTM parameters in your own web analytics.

Is there a limit on the number of scans?

The Free plan allows 10,000 scans per month; all paid plans offer unlimited scans.
