QR code table stands: material, size and placement

What stands are there

A QR code table tent brings the digital menu to every seat. The selection is large, and each variant has its strengths:

  • Acrylic or Plexiglas stand: insert sheet interchangeable, easy to clean, neutral appearance.
  • Wooden stands or wooden blocks with slot: warm, fits with tavern and cafe.
  • Printed cardboard standees: cheap and fast, but not long-lasting.
  • Stickers directly on the table: they do not slip away, but must be compatible with the table surface and cleaning.
  • Code on menus, napkin holders, or candle holders: inconspicuous, since there is already something there anyway.

Size of the code

At the table, scanning is done from a short distance, so the code does not need to be huge. However, it must not be too small either, especially in dim light or with older mobile phones. Before you order in bulk, print a code in several sizes and scan it from the seating position with different devices.

  • Dark code on a light background scans most reliably.
  • Leave a free margin around the code, without text or patterns.
  • Avoid glossy surfaces, as they reflect ceiling lamps and candlelight.
  • Provide the code to the printer as a vector file (SVG or PDF), so it remains sharp at any size.

Text next to the code

A QR code without explanation is an invitation to guess. A short sentence tells the guest what to expect:

  • Menu & daily specials - simply scan with your mobile phone camera
  • Our menu. We are happy to print it for you.
  • For international guests, additionally in English: Scan for our menu.

The reference to the printed menu is important. It signals that no one is forced to use a mobile phone.

Durability and cleaning

A sign stand sits daily among glasses, sauces, and damp cloths. Laminated or acrylic-protected inserts withstand this best. Regularly check whether codes are scratched, faded, or dirty – a damaged code is just as frustrating for the guest as a wrong destination.

One advantage of the dynamic code: Since only the target changes, never the code itself, you can purchase stands for years. Same-QR also checks at night whether the target of each code is reachable, and reports by email if not.

If a stand is missing

Stands disappear, fall down, or are borrowed for the side table. Keep a few spare stands ready and assign who checks them when setting up. A second code at a fixed location, such as at the entrance or at the counter, is helpful.

Checklist before ordering

  • Test print scanned at original size with multiple mobile phones.
  • Instruction text short and understandable, if necessary also in English.
  • Code delivered as a vector file to the print shop.
  • Material chosen appropriately for cleaning in the plant.
  • Some replacement stands were ordered.

A good stand lasts for years. That is precisely why a dynamic code is worthwhile: what changes behind it does not affect the print.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate code for each table?

Not for the menu – all tables can use the same code. Custom codes per area are worthwhile if you want to know where and how often scanning occurs.

Which material is the easiest to maintain?

Acrylic with a replaceable insert is easy to wipe clean. Wood looks warmer but requires a sealed surface.

What if the insert is damaged?

Simply reprint. With the dynamic code, the code remains the same; you only need the file from the first print.
