Edit menu directly in the preview: tap and change

Bild von Unsplash

Until now, editing a menu in Same-QR was done via the form on the left in the editor: expand the category, find the dish, change the field, and check the preview on the right. Now it works the other way around too. You see an error in the preview, tap on it, and change it right there. The preview shows the menu exactly as the guest sees it after scanning. What you correct there, they will see exactly the same.

What you can change directly in the preview

  • the name of the venue and the subtitle
  • Names of categories
  • Dishes, their description (additional info) and their price
  • the daily special with heading and description
  • Text paragraphs

If something is missing, such as a description under a dish, a placeholder like “+ Description” or “+ Subtitle” appears in that spot. Tap on it, and you can fill it in.

How to edit your menu online

  • 1. Open your menu in the “Menus” tab. The preview displays the note: “Tap a text or price to change it right here.”
  • 2. Tap the text or price you want to change. A small input field opens right at that spot.
  • 3. Edit the text. Press Enter to apply, or Esc to discard. Alternatively, tap “Apply” or “Cancel”.
  • 4. When everything looks good, publish as usual using “Publish” or “Publish changes”.

After each change, “Undo” appears briefly. On a laptop, you can also use Cmd+Z or Ctrl+Z.

On mobile

On your phone, open the preview via the “Preview” button in the bottom bar; it then fills the entire screen. When you tap a text, an input sheet slides up from the bottom, large enough for your thumb. This way, you can correct a price even between two orders at the counter.

Languages, examples, and hidden dishes

  • You always edit the base language of your menu. If the preview is currently showing a translation, tap “Show original”. After changing texts, translate them again using “Translate again”.
  • Hidden dishes appear dimmed in the preview so you can find them. Guests do not see them.
  • If you edit an example dish in a new menu, it loses its “Example” label.
  • The restaurant name must not be empty.

When the form is better for editing your menu

You can directly edit existing items in the preview. You continue to manage new categories and dishes, a different order, allergens, opening hours, and settings in the form on the left. For quick changes without searching, there is also the “What should change?” field, where you can type or speak a sentence (available from Gastro Starter onwards).

Conclusion

A typo in a dish name or an outdated price usually becomes noticeable in the preview, so you can correct it right there. This saves the detour through the form, whether on a laptop or a mobile phone. Editing in the preview is available in every plan. You can start for free on sameqr.com and try it out with your own menu.
