Google Business Profile for the restaurant: Properly maintain menu, photos, and hours

Why the profile is often more important than the website

When someone searches for "restaurant near me" or "pizza Graz," they first land on the listings on Google Maps. There, photos, reviews, opening hours, and a look at the menu decide whether someone comes. The Google Business Profile for the restaurant is therefore the most important page on the web for many businesses – even before their own website.

The profile is free. You just need to claim it, meaning you must prove that you are the owner, and then maintain it. Without maintenance, Google takes information from other sources or user suggestions – not always accurate.

Enter menu link

In the profile there is a dedicated field for the menu link. Many guests check it before making a decision. Enter a link there that works permanently and always leads to the current menu.

  • The menu on your own website is ideal – Google reads it there too.
  • If you do not have a website, the link can lead to a hosted menu.
  • Avoid links to PDF files whose address changes with each new version.

If you use the digital menu from Same-QR, you can also use the address of the dynamic code in the profile. If you later move to your own website, you only change the target, and the link on Google remains valid.

Photos that work

Photos are often the first thing guests click. Upload your own images instead of leaving the field to guest photos:

  • Dishes in daylight, from above or slightly angled.
  • The dining area, as it feels – not empty at eight in the morning.
  • The exterior view, so that guests can find the entrance.
  • Beer garden or outdoor seating or terrace, if they exist.

Update the photos if something changes, such as after a renovation or with a new menu.

Opening hours and special times

Incorrect opening hours on Google are among the most common reasons for poor reviews. Maintain the regular hours and enter holidays and vacations as special opening hours.

Posts and reviews

Through posts you can display news, promotions or events directly in your profile. A short post about the new seasonal menu or the Martinigansl weekend is sufficient.

And of course the reviews: Respond to praise and criticism alike, objectively and politely. These are read not only by the authors but also by all future guests.

Checklist for your profile

  • Profile claimed and confirmed.
  • Name, address and phone number correct and consistent everywhere.
  • Category chosen appropriately, e.g. "Austrian Restaurant" or "Café".
  • Opening hours and special opening hours entered.
  • Link to the website and menu set.
  • Current photos of dishes, dining room, and exterior view.
  • Replied to new reviews.

Schedule a fixed date each month to review the profile. It doesn't take much time, and guests will notice the difference.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Google Business Profile cost anything?

No, the profile itself is free. You only pay for ads, which you can optionally activate.

Can I enter the menu directly on Google?

Depending on the country and category, you can also enter dishes directly in your profile. It is usually easier to maintain a link to a menu that you keep up to date anyway.

How do I remove incorrect information from my profile?

As a confirmed owner, you can change most details yourself. You should regularly review user suggestions and reject them if they are incorrect.
